Status Report

I often think it would be cool to chronicle my projects here, since I enjoy reading about such things elsewhere, but then I drop the idea because I have a tendency to stall out on my projects. But I really would like to make progress on and complete something, so perhaps that thought should change.

Happy New Year

It seems like I may never actually complete a side project. I may not be disciplined enough, or may be lacking in some other area. But that doesn’t seem like a good excuse not to try.

What is an open mind?

Derren Brown is investigating supernatural phenomena in a miniseries of documentaries called Derren Brown Investigates. He wrote a great blog post to introduce the show, which delves into his approach and the nature and necessity of skepticism, which he defines as “reserving judgement until the evidence is weighed.” Predetermined disbelief he calls cynicism. It’s a [...]

Spam Comments

A lot of spam comments get blocked here. I can see them, and it’s kind of amusing how many lately attempt to use flattery to get approved. Things like “your writing is great” on a page with just a list of games I’m playing and have played. Not very believable in many cases, but I [...]

Afraid to Speak

My throat chakra is closed. I am working on opening it up. That is, I suppose, the purpose of this post.

Perspective and Creation

Everything we do has consequences. Some are more noticeable than others, and many are expected: cleaning off the table usually results in a clean table. Inaction is an action with consequences as well, which can often be predicted without any extraordinary psychic talent. Certainly not all consequences are predictable, and many go unnoticed.

Obligatory iPad Opinion/Speculation/Analysis

Almost everyone seems to have an opinion about the recently-announced Apple iPad.1 If you don’t, I may surmise that you either a) live under a rock, or have been distanced from the internet and tangential media and people enough that you have not yet heard about it, or b) you do not have any opinions at [...]

Chrome for Mac

Chrome is finally available for Mac! It’s beta, and so far it runs a bit slower than the Windows version (opening and closing tabs is noticeably a little slower), but it will improve. Already set as my default browser… Safari 4 is really nice, but the “omnibox” is the one thing I missed when using [...]

Worldbuilders 2009

Patrick Rothfuss has just begun his second annual Heifer International fundraiser, which now has a name: Worldbuilders. If you donate you can get lots of cool prizes, most of which are sci-fi/fantasy books.

You are being conned.

Beware the little “offers” which get you in-game perks on social games like the ones on Facebook and MySpace: most of them are scams.

On the way to 0.2.0

Photos? Oh, right. I’ll get around to putting them up before too long. Really. Also, spam-bots are getting more clever. I was almost taken in by this spam comment:

Whew. Seattle.

We’re back from our trip to Seattle. We got back Tuesday last week [at least, it was last week when I first wrote this sentence], but brought with us a flu, perhaps the “PAX Pox” as some are calling it, so this post has been unstarted for a while.

Optimism and Zen

Since my last post, things have apparently gotten worse in some ways. Maxed out credit cards, unexpected bills. But as I said at the end of that one, things are still moving in the right direction. Things are still moving. Everything changes.

What’s up?

(If you’re reading this on Facebook Notes, consider clicking through to the original post so you can see the links, since it doesn’t seem to translate them.)

Twitter & Stuff

So I’m on Twitter now. Maybe I’ll use that a little more frequently than I post here? Anyway my username is SharedProphet, on both Twitter and Facebook (they let you have a username on Facebook now to make it easier for people to find you).
